For a long time they’ve been one of those things that would be available sometime in the future. Well they’re available now in an Australian company Phase Change Energy Solutions.
The product – BioPCM appears to be coming out of the US by a company of the same name (more details on their US website).
In essence this product provides the equivalent of having thermal mass in walls or slabs. For existing homes or offices it’s an ideal retrofit where adding traditional thermal mass isn’t viable.
The ideal location for installation is in the ceiling immediately above the plasterboard but below the insulation. It can also be installed in cavity walls behind the Gyprock.
Various densities are available depending on the area of the room and load level your confident your ceiling can support.
